Samuel Farber was born and raised in Cuba and got his Ph.D. in Sociology from UC Berkeley in 1969. He has written numerous books and articles on Cuba including his most recent The Origins of the Cuban Revolution Reconsidered published by the University of North Carolina Press in 2006. He is currently working on a book on Cuba since the 1959 Revolution for Haymarket Press. He is an Emeritus Professor of Political Science at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY.)
